multimeter isolation

I am using a multimeter to measure voltage from a device. Normally the voltage is about 30-45V DC. But occasionally the device produces overvoltage like 400V and i want to protect my measuring instruments like multimeter from such over voltages. What signal conditioning device would you recommend which will meet my purpose and be economical? I dont want any unnecessary addons which i will not use.
Thanks and Regards

Hi poli,

I do not believe that NI has any sort of signal conditioning module that you could put between your DMM and device capable of handling 400 V. The only recommendation that I can make to work with the third party hardware you have, is to research and build a external circuit yourself with capacitors or diodes that would blow off that voltage spike. If development time of this circuit is not ideal, National Instruments produces the PXI-4071 DMM which is capable of handling up to 500 VDC.

Hope this helps, Mallori M.
