Burst Mode waveform ( Sine wave followed by DC) generation using NI-5406

Hi David,

Thanks for you inputs.

I generated the waveform using the exe sent by you, and getting the same waveform which I posted previously. I'm attaching the waveform again.

This waveform ( and the previous one also) is generated using the NI-PXI-5411 fgen as we dont have the 5406 module. Our requirements are met by ONLY 5406 so we are considering this model only, so we are experiementing with PXI-5411 with the modes and other function which is supported by PXI-5406 also. Pls clarify the following

1. Which function generator you used for generating the waveform you attaeched in previous mail.

2. Can you execute the same .exe on 5411 and send us the result file?

3. Will 5411 and 5406 generate different kind of wavefom for same program? I'll wait for your reply.

Let us know your valuable inputs on this problem. We are jusitng holding our decision on buying NI-5406 because of this reason.

Thanks

Prashantha

Prashantha,

The reason you are seeing the waveform discrepancy is that the 5411 cannot produce a 0Hz signal. It can only produce just above 0Hz. The 5406, which we were testing with, can produce a true 0Hz signal. Since the 5411 cannot produce a 0Hz signal, each time it stops, the signal does not complete a full cycle and therefore when it starts again the voltage is slightly increased.

The summary is that testing with the 5411 is not comparable to testing with a 5406. I have personally done testing, and you will not have any problems with the 5406.

Hi David,

Thanks a lot for clarification. All your inputs will help in finalizing this model ( PXI-5406) as the final recommended replacement.

Thanks again.
