analog and digital signals

Dear,

I'm relatively new to LV and LV SE.  We have LV 7.0 and LV SE 2.5.0 in our company.

Now, I would like to read an analog input (eg at 8kHz for 4 seconds). We have a NI cDAQ-9172 with the
following cards: NI 9401, NI 9237, NI 9203, NI 9215 and 9233. I also want to read a digital signal
at the same sample rate of the analog signal.

When trying to do this in SE, I first got the following error : "Error 200303 , external sample clock must be specified".
So, I changed the 'Sample Clock Type' in SE to 'external', but I cannot choose a 'Clock Source' (disabled). Is this normal?
Then, I made two tasks in MAX: one to read the analog input ('Sample Clock Type' = internal),
and one to read the digital input ('Sample Clock Type' = external, 'Clock Source' = ??, I probably tried the entire list,
but nothing seems to work??). Both signal have the same sample rate and samples to read. I import these tasks in LV SE.

Next, I got this error: "Error -89120 occured at DAQ Assistant. Source terminal to be routed could not be found on the device."

Can someone explain me in simple words what I'm doing wrong. I also read the 'NI cDAQ-9172 User Guide and Specifications',
but that didn't make me a lot wiser.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Dear Mister Ronny,

Sorry for the delated response. What you should take care off is that you place the 2 modules on which you want to use an external clock in slot 5 or 6 of your cDAQ chassis. If you do this you will be able to select an external clock from the drop down menu. Only slot 5 and 6 have access to the so called PFI lines. I hope this helps you to figure out how you can configure your cDAQ  to do what you want it to do. Good luck and once again sorry for the delated response.

Dear Joris,

I tried by placing the 2 modules in slots 5 and 6, but that doesn't solve the problem.
I have no idea which Sample Clock Type (internal or external) and which Clock Source I have to choose
for both the analog and the digital input.
Can I email an example project to you?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Kind regards,

Hi Ronny,

Sure you can. You can always go to ni.com/ask and fill in your question there.
What you need to chose, internal or external and witch source depense of what you want to do and how you want to do it.
I know you want to sample 1 digital and 1 analog signal but well, if you send me an example perhaps it will clear up somethings.

Also i have heard that Bart De Rouck is going to visit your company in a couple days and if you still have trouble then, you can always
explain him the problem. He will also try to help you or explain us what you want to do. I will hear from you again by mail then I guess?
If they ask you for a service request number when you go to ni.com/ask just fill in 632788. The problem is some say it's not possible and then
before i replied to you i spoke with someone who things it is possible, so it needs some investigating and trying from our side but that takes some
time. Thanks for mailing me the example, till later.
