calibrate a speed sensor

I have a small engine hooked up to a water break dyno. The speed sensor is a magnetic pick up device off of a 60 tooth gear. The sensor is plugged into a NI 9401 module. The display shows a set of zeros and ones. How could i get it to show revolutions per minute?  Also there is a load cell that is plugged into a NI 9201 module. The readings are very erratic. I show between -0.1 V and 0.1 V without the motor running and without any water flowing into the dyno. Thank you

Ricardo,

Thank you for posting to the National Instruments Discussion Forums.

You will need to use the counter functionality of the compactDAQ chassis. If you place your 9401 module in slot 5 or 6 of your chassis. From here you can perform counting operations to count the number of edges that your sensor produces. From here you can calculate the number of revolutions. Here is a tutorial on counter input using the DAQ Assistant (similar to the interface in Signal Express)

Hope this helps!
