Project Title: Automation of the calibration process of longitudinal pattern according to ISO 3650
List all parts (hardware, software, etc.) you used to design and complete your project: LabVIEW and TESA calibration equipment
Describe how you addressed the challenge through your project
This project was born due to the need of the Vilanova i la Geltrú Center of Technology metrology laboratory. The idea is to automate the calibration process by mechanical comparison of longitudinal patten block (BPL) which is made entirely by hand.
The goal is to implement an application using Labview graphical programming software ( based in a state machine programming pattern ), which communicates with TESA calibration machine using serial communication ( RS232 ) and thus get a semi-manual calibration tool where data acquisition is done completely automatically.
It is pretended to maximize the performance of the equipment, reduce the cost of calibration, shorten the time of calibration per BPL and above all, minimize the possible calibration error produced by the technician or person that performs the calibration.
It is important to initially familiarize yourself with the basic concepts of metrology, especially with dimensional metrology.
