Title: Intelligent 500W Solar Engergy Storage System

The Challenge:

     Design, prototype, and deploy a commercial soloar engergy solution with efficient developing cost and time. Solar cell's output voltage usually is different from the storage systmer's desire input voltage. Therefore a adjustable DC/DC Converter design is needed. And also, how to operate soloar cell according MMPT is also a require design. Finally, we need to find a balance between commercial needs, research, and time/cost for our research project.

The Solution:

We leverage NI myRIO to perform MPPT algarithm base on sensor input. Then use UART to communicate with our research design Power Optimizer circuit board. It can adjust solar cell's output voltage in order to achieve maximum efficiency. We can design automatically shut down function base on myRIO's monitoring result on the sotrage system.

Power Optimizer Circuit:

We leverage NI Multisim and Ultiboard for our lab design a Power Optimizer buck-boost circuit board, Buck-boost converter has raise/lower voltage function. We perform PI voltage stablize, input voltage and current measurement, MOSFET control funciton.

Bluetooth:

We use BT4.0 dual mode Bluetooth module, BM77,BT4.0 use BT2.0 standard and add LE function. It can work with myRIO's UART communication. And we can easily communication information back to mobile device through Bluetooth. Then we design a mobile APP, so user can easily monitor current system status.

Conclusion:

The system can lower the cost while provide 500W power, which is efficient for a normal house hold DC voltage needed. It can also benifit for household that's in the country side!
