Title: UCompanion – Smarter Gait Trainer

The Challenge:

               Traditional gait training devices are mainly composed of parallel bars, mechanical walkers and canes.  Each of them has their pros and cons.  Although using parallel bars is stable and safe, using it is lack of environmental stimulation.  Mechanical walkers and canes have advantages of high mobility; however, they easily induce danger and lead to secondary injury to the users.  UCompanion not only has high mobility but also provides opportunity for users to interact with the environment.  Moreover, it can support users to avoid them from falling risk.

The Solution:

               We realize user's current position and posture state by detecting his feet location. Then we use PID control algorithm to control motor's movement in order to achieve the result of constantly following the users while maintain a desire distance.

               We believe in quick prototyping and time saving. LabVIEW graphical nature can help team member to easily learn the language and  also dramatically speed up the coding development. NI my-RIO's high integration ability, can help our development team quickly design our design function with minimum hardware circuit design. This safe our developement team al lot of time and money. And also, we can leverage Data dashboard to quickly design a friendly interface for our user.
