RIO 1.0 with a shorted power rail

Hello,

I have a RIO 1.0 with a shorted 5v rail. Inspecting the cover and pins had no foreign objects, and shop air was not able to dislodge anything. I took it apart and inspected the entire PCB, but could not see anything that looked out of place. The board doesn't have any hotspots or whiskering that I could find. What is the next step for me?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

This is Diego from NI.

I understand that you have already tried some steps, however the shorts are generally caused by metal shavings falling inside the case, you can clear them by trying the following steps.

1. Open the device using the four screws on the back and the two screws at the port and clean the unit off using compressed air. (Maybe also use a flashlight to inspect the board closely for any remaining metal shards and remove them as well.)
2. Turn the roboRIO upside down and shake it vigorously.
3. Vacuuming out the ports on the roboRIO.

Once we confirm that these steps have been done, we can proceed to coordinate the repair

Hi Diego,

I have performed the instructions you have sent to no avail. What is the next step?

Diego,

I still have not heard back from you. I just want to confirm again I have followed all of your instructions and the RIO still has the same fault.
