RoboRio 2.0 Not Powering

Solved!
Go to solution

Purchased in January, was working well but recently stopped powering on entirely, not even the power light is coming on. We swapped this Roborio with our spare RoboRio and it is working great. Each power source we've tried it fails to even show a power light.

I think we need a replacement.

Hello cpall, thanks for posting on the forums. I'm Matthew with NI.

We have seen failures like this when the SD card comes unseated. Can you try removing the SD card, inspecting the slot for metal shards (maybe hold upside down and shake vigorously), then re-seat the card?

Sure! Tried it out, no luck. We used our compressor to blow out the entire unit at one point and still had no lights whatsoever. Do we void any chance of exchange if we remove the screws on the back to visually inspect the interior? I don't think there's anything I can really do inside except perhaps see if there are any shavings or evidence of something being burned out.

You would not void the warranty, in fact we often ask teams to do this to solve the unit detecthing a short:

Open the device using the four screws on the back and the two screws at the port port and clean the unit off using compressed air. (Maybe also use a flashlight to inspect the board closely for any remaining metal shards and remove them as well.)

While I would expect a red power light if a short was the cause, do you want to go ahead and check this to be certain?

I opened it up and cleaned it off using air and a *clean* painters brush for the stuff that seemed resistant even to the air. Powered it up, still no lights of any sort. No noise, the back looks clean. I took out and reseated the card, I started it with the card, without the card. It looks perfectly good to me, but just nothing coming of it.

Incidentally, this worked out perfectly, service was amazing and I appreciate everything that was done.

We have the same problem as the 8863 robotics team. Is it possible to send us an e-mail?
