Problem installing VXI-8340 on XP (resman hangs system)

I am trying to install a VXI-8340 on my XP system and I can't see any of the devices on the VXI system. It also appears from the device manager that I have some sort of conflict with COM1.

Hi Kelvin,

I have several questions to better diagnose your problem.

1) What version of NI-VXI do you have installed on this PC?

2) Did you upgrade the PC to Windows XP? Did the MXI-3 work on this computer previously, or does it work on other computers?

3) What cards are in the VXI chassis and have you tried taking out VXI cards to see if one of those is causing Resman to hang?

Remember that you need to power on teh VXI-8340 (VXI chassis) at least 8 seconds before powering on the PC.

Thanks!

Erick,

This is my first experience with MXI-3. The previous setup (PCI-MXI-2) worked OK. Resman will hang the system even if only the VXI-8340 is installed in the VXI chassis (I've tried two different VXI chassis).

Here is my hardware and software setup:
Dell Optiplex GX 270 running Windows XP professional
(new computer - I haven't tried it on any others).
VXI-8340 (copper)
Kinetic Systems V207, V253
VXI Technologies 1602
VXI-1200 (9-slot), Tektronix VX1401 (13-slot)
Measurement Studio Enterprise Edition Ver 7.0
(recently upgraded from MS Ver 6.0)
Measurement and Automation Explorer 3.0.1
NI-VISA 3.0
NI-VXI 3.3.1

Hi Kelvin,

Thanks for the additional information. Lets narrow this problem down a bit further. Where exactly does Resman hang? Could you give me some more details about the "hang" that you are talking about (system freezes, mouse doesn't move, or can you not quit Resman) Also, what message is showing on the screen?

It would also be helpful to know if this same problem occurs on another PC, preferably a different model if possible.

Let me know what you find out.

Thanks!

Erick,

My problem seems to be gone. Earlier, when I tried to run resman, the PC would freeze up. Even ctrl-alt-delete wouldn't work. I had to use the reset button on the PC to recover. Now I can't reproduce the problem.

The only explanation I can come up with is that I upgraded Measurement Studio from version 6.0 to version 7.0 earlier this week, and I must have not adequately retested the system. With the exception of NI-VXI 3.3.1, the software versions I listed in my previous comment were after I had upgraded Measurement Studio.

Thanks for responding to my question. It's comforting to know that this support is available when I run into problems.

Kelvin
