VXIpc-872 freezes after restart or after BIOS update save

I have a VXIpc-872 Slot 0 Controller.  Unit will boot windows NT from Cold start, but performing a windows restart or following any BIOS modifications the controller freezes.  Only get a solid black screen.  Power OFF has been the only way to clear it.

Any thoughts on what might be wrong?

Hi Jaley,

Had anything recently changed with your set up? ie the BIOS or operating system version? Has your VXI system always done this?

Thanks

Hi Scott,

Nothing has changed with the setup and it has not always done this.

Thanks,

Jason

Hi Jason,

Sorry about the delay. I have been checking to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your controller, there aren't. So your best option is probably to reset all BIOS options to their defaults, and format your controller.

It doesn't seem that there are any easier fixes.

Scott,

I reset the BIOS by moving the W6 jumper.  After reconfiguring the BIOS to our setup, it took the controller about 30 seconds before the reboot started.  I then entered the Symbios SCSI Configuration utility and reviewed that setup.  After closing and saving, the controller never performed the reboot (waited about 15 minutes).  I pushed the reset button and still no reboot.  Will only reboot after a cold start.

I use an external SCSI hard drive that is good.  What steps are needed to "format your controller" as you stated previously?

Thank you,

Jason

Hi Jason,

We have a really good Developer Zone article on the subject, you can find it here.

Restoring or Changing the Operating System in a VXIpc-770/870B Series Embedded Controller

Seems like reloading the OS on a clean hard drive has improved the units performance.

I will keep working with it to see if it starts freezing up again.

Thanks

Jason
