NI Volume License Manager 3.1 will be releasing Summer 2013 with a beta program to occur in May 2013. The new version contains many exciting features, some of which we will preview through the month of April. For the most part, features in NI VLM 3.0, the current version, allow you to be more hands-off with your administration. Automatic permission requests allow you to spend less time approving users and more time on other tasks. Being a volume license administrators requires occasional check-ins and maintenance tasks, but keeping up with these tasks can be daunting if you aren't constantly in the software. With most licensing servers not even residing in the same room as your main office, monthly tasks might only be completed once every few months or worse.
That's where NI VLM Administrator Notifications come in. These new notifications provide alerts for actions you need to take to maintain your volume agreement. NI VLM 3.1 can notify administrators of six different events, all of which require action from the administrator. Notifications are sent via email or pop-up message, and each notification can be turned on or off depending on your unique situation.
Those six notifications are:
- NI VLM left open more than four hours
- Contract expiring soon
- Server backup older than thirty days
- Disconnected licensing expiring
- Home licenses expiring
- Pending permission requests
These notifications should streamline the job of being a volume license administrator by ensuring you never get behind on your agreement maintenance tasks.
