When I restart/boot my machine running XP (SP2), LabVIEW (8.5.1) or MAX (4.4.1) cannot see the connected NI-ELVIS2 hardware!
The returned error is -88705 "the specific device is not present or not active in the system". The Device manager does not see any NI "Data Acquisition Device".
If I unplug and replug the USB cable that connect the NI-ELvis to my computer I hear the magical "ding/dong" that inform about the successful NI-ELVIS discovery.
How can I get rid off this error without having to unplug-replug NI ELVIS after a reboot ?
thanks

I am not familiar with this situation but i am wondering:
Is your Elvis running all the time, so not switched off while the PC is off?
If you switch off the Elvis, have you checked if the issue occurs again if you switch on the Elvis after the PC started booting Windows (so BIOS already finished)?
hope this helps,
Norbert

The PC and the ELVIS board are on the same main switch, so they are powered ON at the same time, would this be an issue ?
I thought XP would be able to detect hardware connected to the USB bus at boot, no ?!?
Is NI ELVIS different from other USB devices, I guess yes, I there a fix/firmware update/?
Thanks

Well, is switching on Elvis later than the PC doing the trick for you?
If yes, this is at least a possible workaround.
I am not aware of any updates for Elvis so far, and i doubt that this is a known issue. And since i don't work with many USB devices except mouse and keyboard myself, i lack the experience of: is this somehow unique to NI Elvis? Sorry bout that.....
