Student version 8.0 for Mac

Can anyone confirm the 8.0 student version runs on a Mac?  The order form only lists Windows, yet the 7.0 version ran on Mac.  If so, does it run on Intel Macs?

Thanks for posting to the NI forums.  The The LabVIEW Student Edition Software Suite comes with a Windows-only version of the LabVIEW Student Edition.
  • Windows
  • Processor: Pentium III/Celeron 866 MHz or equivalent
  • RAM: 256 MB
  • Screen Resolution: 1024 x 768 pixels
  • Operating System: Windows XP/2000
  • Disk Space: 900 MB

The LabVIEW Student Edition Textbook Bundle also includes a version of the LabVIEW Student Edition for the Macintosh platform. The minimum requirements for that are:

  • Macintosh
  • Processor: G3 or better
  • RAM: 256 MB
  • Screen Resolution: 1024 x 768 pixels
  • Operating System: Mac OS X (10.3 or later)
  • Disk Space: 500 MB
The Macintosh LabVIEW 8.0 that comes wiht the Student Edition Textbook Bundle should run on an Intel Mac, however, it is not a universal application.  It will run on the rosetta emulator so you may notice decreased performance.  In addition, running LabVIEW 8.0 on Intel Macs has not be tested extensively so a few issues may come up and it is not officially supported.  However, I have heard of several individuals that were successfully able to run LabVIEW 8.0 on an Intel Mac.  LabVIEW 8.2 for the Mac that was released in August is a universal application and will run natively on Intel Macs.  However, this version has not yet made it to the student edition bundle.

Let me know if you have any additional questions.

Thanks for the info.  I use the 8.2 Full Development System for Windows at work, but the plan is to use the student edition at home on the PPc Mac for the Lego Mindstorm NXT.  I was using student 7.0 for the old Mindstorms.  I guess I'll wait until the NXT VIs are released to see if it requires 7.0, 7.1, 8.0, or 8.2.  My concern would be the bluetooth stack not working on student 8.0 on Intel Mac (which I plan to buy).

Are the student versions typically released only once per year, or will 8.2 be out soon?

I don't think the current NXT bluetooth functionalilty will work on an Intel Mac; you have to use the USB cable to program the NXT.  As far as the release of the student edition with LabVIEW 8.2, I am not sure.  I expect it will be released in the near future.  Unfortunately, the textbook bundle may even take longer to release if I were to guess.
