I have installed LabVIEW 8 Student Edition that was part of the bundle with the Bishop book. I cannot get the MathScript window to connect thus I cannot run any of the examples in the book. In checking the VI properties I found that the MathScript VI is password protected. There is no mention of a password  in the book. How can I activate this feature so I can proceed to use MathScript with my copy of LabVIEW?

Please take a look in NI License Manager.  Once you open LabVIEW, open Development
System.  Check to see if “Student Edition
with MathScript” or “Student Edition” has a green box next to it.  If the box next to “Student Edition with
MathScript” is white or white and yellow, right click on it and select
Activate.  Once activated, you should
have access to MathScript in LabVIEW.

I used the NI License Manager to activate my copy of LabViEW Student Edition several times. After each attempt I retried opening the MathScript window. No "Connected to MathScript" message in each instance. Run arrow is shown broken - clicking on arrow results in a dialog stating no VI errors.  Also, I tried a MathScript structure in a new block diagram, ran the resulting VI which gave an output of zero.

I'm beginning to think that I was sold a defective CD or one labeled that MathScript was included but in fact was not included. As I purchased this item several years ago when I was in graduate school, the warranty has expired and I don't think NI will help me. Oh well ...

Well, if you are no longer a student, you would be violating the license agreement anyway.

Ran Control Panel | Add or Remove Programs | National Instrument Software | Change/Remove | Repair.

This restored MathScript functionality. Problem solved!
