NIWeek 2012

I realize this is a bit early, but I want fellow AF'ers to think about getting together at some point during the week.

First, I strongly recommend you going to NIWeek regardless of your interest in AF.  I know it is expensive, but meeting NI software guys like AQ, niACS and contributors like Daklu, and drjdpowell among countless others (if I did not mention you, you can buy me a beer in August and I might mention you next time. ) provide valuable technical exchange not always feasible in a forum.

There will be social opportunities every night including Sunday, though most non-Alliance Partner folks arrive on Monday.  I got there on Sunday last year and sat in on some events for the academic arena on Monday so it was not a waste of a day.  And, heck, it is Austin; there is always a party going on somewhere on 6th Street.  Monday night starts with the NI Block party and the opening of the show floor.  Tuesday night is typically Lava BBQ. Wednesday night is NI's party at who knows where - last year it was at Austin City Limits.

Anyway, what I was hoping is to find out if there is any interest in meeting on a technical level during the week.  Perhaps some very casual presentions on what folks are doing with AF.  With help from some NI insiders, maybe there will be an open conference room we can snag.  Or perhaps I can get my hotel to loan out a room typically used for these type of meetings.  I personally like the idea of meeting on Monday depending on the arrivals and conflicts with the Alliance Summit and other summits/training/testing.  Thursday is another possibility as things start winding down - but we could be burnt out by then too.

Let me know by posting on this discussion or send me a PM.

Kurt

p.s. AQ - think we need a T-shirt?  Like "AF you" or "AF this"?

It's hardly work appropriate. And I'm not from Minnesota. 🙂

There will be a 90 minute hands-on session during NI Week for building an example program using the Actor Framework. Allen and I will be running that session.

I'm interested. I'd lke it to be separate from NI Week, though. As I'm in the first year of consulting and still getting my feet under me, I don't know whether I'll be able to attend the main event. I live in Austin, though, and I can definitely crash as many unofficial parties as possible.

"Work appropriate" is a very flexible measure of acceptability. I find that NI rests firmly at one end of the spectrum. But I already have enough "gym shirts". How about a bumper sticker for my laptop, instead?

Let me rephrase: if I'm going to have an AF shirt, I want it to be one that I can wear to visit customers when I'm evangelizing  preaching  cult recruiting helping them out. And the Minnesota objection is a bigger deal anyway.

Perhaps:  "AF:  The object is the message"

And what is the Minnesota objection?

I am very interested in a user group during NI Week 2012 for the Actor Framework.  Has anything been planned yet?  Maybe we could schedule a round table discussion?

There will be round table discussions on AF at lunch on Thursday.  I will be leading one table; AristosQueue will lead another.

As of right now, the session on advanced templates in LabVIEW, which I will be presenting, will also touch on the Actor Framework.
