CAN USB-8476 does not register on the USB port, Recycling power resolves the issue

We have a CAN USB-8476 connected to a PC. When the PC is re-booted, most of the time it appears in the Windows Device Manager but ocassionally the USB-8476 does not appear in the Windows Device Manager, and as it is not in the Device Manager, MAX does not see it either. This is part of an automated test set.

OS is Windows XP

If you don't have the latest version of NI-CAN, I would try downloading and installing it from here. Also, does this behavior happen on all USB ports? Do you have any other NI USB devices in your system? If you lose connection and unplug/replug the device, does it work? Is your computer going to Sleep or Hibernate?

Just some ideas to start with...

Hi Peter,

Thank-you for the response, I will check the existing version of the Driver and if required update it. There are no other NI USB devices, but there is a PCI-4070 DMM, PCI 6221 DAQ and 8 Channel RS232 PCI card. As the system is installed at a remote customer site it is hard to determine if unplug/replug resolves the issue. The computer does not Hibernate or go to sleep. This happens on Boot time.

Hi Peter,

As I sated that we have USB-8476 and looking into the driver issue - the system has 2.5.2.xxxxx driver, your link takes me to 2.6.2 driver, but when searching for the driver for USB-8476 the
NI site suggests 2.4 ?

Can you shed some light into this

Regards

Vinod

I see the confusion there. It looks like the new drivers are just not tagged properly on the website. If you take a look at the readme file for the 2.6.2 drivers, then you can confirm, as I have, that your USB device is supported.

Give this a shot, and see if this resolves your issue.
