CANbus: PCMCIA-Reader IRQ problem

Setup = Intel MB, Celeron 1.7GHZ, Actiontec PC750 card-reader, NI-CAN Series 2 PCMCIA, PCI GPIB, All latest CAN, VISA,GBIP,MAX installed. Runing WinRoute w/the card-reader. Win2k (SP4).

Problem = Regarless of no-conflicts or sharing of IRQs evident in Device manager, NI MAX gives me an interupt request error when I try to self test the CAN card. An identical system, though one I did not load myself, functions just fine. All the drivers, IRQ assignments, and hardware show to be identical, nevertheless, one works and one won't.

I've tried three different CAN-PCMCIAs, and two different card-readers with no change in behavior. I have also tried all the combinations of PCI slots.

Does anyone have any suggestions or had similar
experience?

I solved my own problem after many wasted hours.

I obtained a copy of Winroute from the customer of mine with the identical system. I uninstalled the copy which came with the Actiontec Card-Reader and reinstalled using the zipped files from my customer.

Magic - All works well. Weird thing is, that at some time or another I had uninstalled and reinstalled winroute from each of the two cds (have two card readers) in my possesion. I will inquire with Actiontec and/or Softex as to why this occured.

For the archives: If you use an Actiontec 750 Cardreader and have IRQ problems when using winroute. Be wary of the installation from the Actiontec provided CD.

Hello,

I'm glad you were able to get that working. I'm not sure I would have thought of the solution you came up with, but I'm glad it worked. Good luck with your CAN application!

Well Dan, I guess I should have asked you a couple of days ago.  Now, after pulling more of my hair out and after also solving the problem with PCMCIA CAN bus on system #4, I see your post.  However, I just ran winroute from the Actiontec PC750 CD and it magically began to work.  ... That's not all I did though.  I uninstalled and reinstalled just about all the NI software.  I also played with the IRQs in windows hardware device manager.  The IRQ of the GPIB card was the same as one of the PCMCIA slots, but changing that did nothing and it didn't appear to be a conflict with windows anyway.

Wow, I just noticed your post was 4 years and 4 days ago!
