Do i need galvanic separation for CAN on sbRIO Boards

Hi,

Do i need galvanic separation for CAN on sbRIO Boards. Or is it allready implemented?

Im Planning to Communicate with a seccond CAN Device. Both devices have their own power spply. The sbRIO can take 0-30V and the oterh can Gateway will be seperately powerd at 13.5V

Do i need to prevent from Currents ore Voltages that can occure between both bevices via CAN?

Thanks for Answers!

Best Regards

Florian

Hi Florian!

if you are using a device that contains a CAN Port (like the sbRIO), you do not need to worry about the difference between both power systems, because CAN is a standard.

It is similar to Ethernet, for example, where you do not need to worry about a PC and a router not having the same power supply.
