Well done Darin

Ben summed it up nicely. I also remember the time someone fresh showed up and started playing premier league.
IMO, you need more talents then just be a good wire-worker to do so. I admire your brilliant intellect, Darin!
And I also had some good laughs with your 'weakly nuggets'.
Nothing is more enjoyable for an engineer than good technical conversations in combination with an engineers-way of humor.

I'm with RF on this one - I thought Darin had passed 2000 a while ago. OK, Darin, enough slacking off, and get down to real business - POST!
Well done.

Darin, It looks like it is time to upgrade your profile page.
(pssst HEY! I figured it out, maybe "K." is for "Knutson"?)

Many thanks to everyone, it does seem like it has been longer than two years (Christian even managed to give me credit for 2 extra years). I am reminded of the old expression "Married men don't live longer, it just seems like it..." I originally thought I would retire at 1729 posts, fortunately I passed that one without noticing. Then, knowing my OCD, I quickly posted #2001 so as not to be tempted by the roundness of 2000. As to catching up, let's just say I remember Ben reaching 10K, RF reaching 5K, s_fc reaching 10K, Dennis reaching whatever, I lost count. I'd wager they all have stretched their lead considerably. 1000/year is only 3 per day, and when I find someone trying to solve an interesting (ie. hard) problem and their first reply is "what's a shift register?" I know I've got my 3 covered for that day. Guess I won't be sneaking up on anybody now.
Humor is very important with LV. I remember LV2 and LV3 would literally make me throw-something-in-the-lab angry. Things are much better now (both with my zen-like state of calm and LV), I try to keep it fun, and if there were no bugs in LV, well that would just be too easy. And if there were no humor in the forums, well it would be more like the *other* site. ![]()
It will be hard for the next two years to top the first two. I don't get to use LV that frequently, and when I do it is usually pretty lame stuff. I have been inspired here to do things I certainly would not have otherwise. As a teaser, here is an image of my latest contraption, SpeedDrop
I could never embrace the wall of text returned by Quick Drop, so now I get the suggestions returned as icons. Type a few letters to narrow down the objects and shoot right to the target object. Added bonus, with well-written search terms related functions are often returned as well and the window remains open for multiple grabs. Recent items are stored as well as a list of favorites. I have expanded the search to include VIs not in the palettes (think strategic vi.lib locations and useful subVIs), they can be SpeedDropped as well. The hard part now is that I have to stop running it to work on the code. Beta version coming soon to a forum near you.
As a special thanks to Norbert, I have attached a slightly improved version of Angry Bird. I did not want to do too much with it, I find that a lot of its charm is its quick-and-dirty nature. Speaks to LV's prowess that something thrown together so quickly worked so well out of the gate. There were at least five different aspects that I did not know would work until it was all put together, it is an amazing feeling when you hit 'Run' and it works much better than imagined. Now you can keep score (bonus for hitting on the first try), and you get limited chances. And BTW, I have never seen or played the real version, but apparently my interpretation was not too far off.... ![]()
As to the profile: Don't hold your breath...
Special props to Ben who seems to have a way with petulant new posters, and Christian who is probably one of very few people who would and could figure out that Case structures with more than two cases are much slower.
How do I top the first two years?
1. Spent time on Ben's signature (back when it included links, and yes I can now use the expression "back in the day")
2. Posted code once that was trillions of times faster than Altenbach's version (
) (Almost makes up for all the other times his is faster...)
3. Won an iPad, got Jeff K. to say "wow factor"
4. Got at least one Kudo from s_fc
Easy! It looks like I get a mug!
Thanks again to everyone for indulging my Mad Scientist machinations!

That SpeedDROP is so much more in the spirit of LabVIEW. Now even dislexics can use it! Darren should be ashamed of making us read text! 😄
You are right, I accidentally gave you two extra years, because I looked at Jack profile by mistake. His first two years were unremarkable and contain only 1% of his posts. If I remember right (my brain is sometimes way off!), you both became noticeable around the same time. 🙂

Well I have to call Darin out on some of his comments-
I want speed drop! certainly not lame. I'm not sure I remeber how to "Q drop" I never found it "quick" (and I'm a tabber too! "AutoTroll" just irks me) but that is very much the way I would envision an "improved" function palatte picker. (add a drop template tab too, would you?)
Angry Bird- well I've never played the real version either but .....OK I wasted some time with it allready and have a 1700 high score!!
It appears NI ran out of those Enthusiasts Mugs- If you get one let me know who to bug for mine![]()

NO DON'T! No, don't stop, there!
I had plans for a community Nugget that is a lame version of what I think you have there. my Nugget was going to be a "quick drop Tutor" that operates like old-school flash cards.
My prelim hack displayed a icon and waited for me to hit the short-cut for that operator. It tracked correct answers and the time required to complete the entire stack correctly.
BUT
mine was a hack that used jpgs of yhe operators in my Short cuts. It looks like you have a method to get the icon images so...
You COULD mod your code to become a quick-drop tutor.
THe Tutor was great for me to get my short-cuts memorized and hopefully (if you post it) will help others fling-wires and operators.
Just thinking out loud.

Het Darin,
I know I have looked through most of your old nuggest. They were all great. Some things I knew and some I di not but it was always the most fun when I thought I knew something but you showed a new twist on how to use it. I appreciate the hard work of the nuggets and how well there were done.
Keep gong there is still more for me and other to learn.
