It's still there. You may just have your settings to view more posts per page, so page 2 doesn't exist.

This seriously threw me too. I took a double take, then later I had to do it again with one of the responses. It shows me how much I associate the avatar with a specific person without even realizing it.

I'm curious.  How do you get that "evil gleam"?  I'm guessing its a perk of becoming a knight.  I noticed you and Ravens Fan has it as well.

It was many and many a year ago in thread not started by me

that the topic came of up evil in us that we could clearly see

Those are custom avatars done by them but in my case, Yair editted mine and I have worn it proudly since then as a gift freely given.

So add your own gleam just watch that do not use too many frames or update to fast.

As another proud recipient of an evil gleam upgrade I can share my thought process and some of the details.  Once upon a time...  The "Standard" 8-ball was starting to become more popular as my post count grew and, as Ben also stated, I tend to associate the avatar with the poster.  I was getting confused trying to find my own darned posts!  So I decided to play with a GIF editor for the first time.  The results were not spectacular.  So I posted a thread HERE 

Like a nice poster I showed what I had tried- not too surprisingly I left that thread with a twinkle in my eye (er, uhm.... "Evil Gleam")

One may also note the blow-bye mention of Hoodies.   I still want one but missed out.  the shield and challice store went away and hoodies are no longer supported by the current version.
