buy a Gauss meter with serial interface. This was done using asearch of the internet using "Gauss meter and Lanbview" as the search parameters.

Hi,
I dont really know much about 'measuring the magnetic field of the earth'.
Never had to do it, so I not sure I can offer any advice that would help you.

You should also be more specific.
For a simple 3-axis magnetometer with computer interface, do a google search. There is plenty available, e.g.:
