I like waiting until the personality of a pet starts to show.  Favorite names from the past:

• Scalawag  -  A mutt that was always up to no good.  Either chasing chickens or stealing eggs from the hen house.
• You Bad Thing - Absolute terror as kitten.  Several near drownings etc. This cat went on to achieve legendary status in family lore. 
• Weezer - A Pug with asthma.  Nuf said.

Might be something to this notion of "nominative determinism" after all. 

I do like Harley but Steve has a better sound.
