Why is there no ADK2 for dyslexics?

Looking at the video below from Google IO, I was wondering how these code snippets would look to an even mildly dyslexic genius.

LabVIEW would seem to be a much better choice here (as everywhere else, of course!). 😄

Here's the full video. Looks like a cool gadget. 🙂

Not a genius but I can speak as a dyslexic.

They look like a collection of letters and numbers that I don't want to look at.

Is there a joke in that alphabet soup somehwere?

Cool device!

There is a font for dyslexics, Ben- what do you think?

Funny that you should reply since I originally read this as "Why is there no AK2DM for dyslexics?"

When I was first diagnosed I was told there are as many forms of dyslexia as there are dyslexics... but they all seem to find was to cope.

The fonts don't seems like something that would help me that much but then again, I don't see the difference between an upside down "A" and normal "A". The suggestions about paragraph structure sure sounds sweet to me.

I used to get smacked by teachers "Don't read with your hand read with your eyes." but using a finger to keep track of where the next line in a book is is how I survive. Long posts with no CRs and no breaks are near impossible to read. I will cut/n/paste them into and editor and start adding CRs until it makes sense. I think I often will skip the posts with piles of text just becuase it takes too much work to figure what is being asked.

I am relieve to learn that this is an actual effort to help dyslexics and not another one of the "doG" jokes.

From where I sit dyslexia is a blessing and a curse. I can read upside and/or in a mirror as well as I can normal. I can speed read technical manuals and instructions. But as I have stated previously, I can not read out loud (unless I have the text memorized) and my son when he was nine lost his patience with me trying to read th intro to "Star Wars", interupted me and took over. So that puts my reading speed to be at about the 4/5 grade level as far as speed goes. But becuase I have to work so hard to read things I can recall almost everything I have read and can often site who it was that wrote it.

I sincerley pray that none of you or your children have to learn to cope with dyslexia. But if they do my efforts here on the forum may serve to indicate that "a learning disability does not mean you are stupid."

Yes, I interpreted the post title in a similar fashion.

I hope the font adaptations work for others, I can see how structure is important.

My youngest son is disabled and slightly dyslexic, he is highly dependant on using his finger to assist in tracking. We also found it helps to cover up parts of the page to limit distractions and provide less information at a given time.

Take care!

I simply wanted to point out the crazy direction text based programming is headed. As functions become more powerful, the names become longer and longer, and at one point everybody will have problems checking that everything is spelled right.

So you have words with 40+ characters that no spelling bee in the world would dare to use! This is longer than half of the maximum lenght of a classic FORTRAN line!

It is one more indication that text based progamming is circling the drain. 😮 How long will they be able to keep all this up?? Why are they clinging to programming techology that has changed very little since mid last century, simply piling on longer and longer keywords?

Starting with the macintosh, everything in computing has become graphical, mouse and multitouch-centric. Keyboards have become virtual and completely hidden most of the time. We interact with gestures on a fully graphical interface. The only exeption seems to be programming itself and it is silly. There simply are better ways to do it!

Similarly, there are probably good reasons why the nightly news is not broadcast in morse code. 😮 For a rich experience we need a rich medium.

I am so glad that we have a graphical alternative to write our programs. 😄

One of my co-workers passed this to me.

To some extent it illustrates what text looks like when I read quickly.

I can hear many of you now, yeah, that is what some of your posts look like Ben. Smiley Wink

I do question the "only certain people" part.

Reminds me to some old days, when simple 7 segment displays were used to display text...  you don't even see the hole word at once while it was scrolling through the usually only 6 to 8 digits ..
