I'm using the 9172 and I have a question about the 9401 module. I have an encoder (which requires a counter) and a Devantech SRF05 sonar (which requires a counter output and an input). Can I use the 2 counters on the 9401 and a digital output signal?

Also, can I use one counter with alternating directions? i.e. send out a counter pulse, then receive one, continuously.

Hello,
Yes, you can use both counters on the 9172 with the 9401 module. Can you clarify what you mean by using a counter with alternating direction? Do you need to measure the input pulse? Count them? Trigger an output?

I've changed the setup but am still having problems. I have 2x 9401 cards in slots 5 and 6. I have a sonar using the 2 counters (input and output) in slot 5 and the encoder using an output counter in slot 6.
Separately they work, all together it does not. B.T.W., this is in signalexpress.
Thanks.

I’m sorry but that really didn’t clarify what you are trying to do. Can you post your code? That might clarify what you are trying to do.

Hello cfin,
The cDAQ-9172 chassis has only two counters total. The counters are on the chassis, not the 9401 modules. As a result, you can only have two single counter tasks or one two-counter task running at the same time.
As a result, if your sonar is using one counter for input and one for output, you won't be able to use counters anywhere else in the chassis.
The cDAQ-9174, 9178, and 9188 all have four counters on-board and would likely be more suited to your application. These counters may be accessed from any slot.
