External sample clock with encoder

Hi

The solution given will work as ling as the movement is smooth. If there is any judder, then the failure to cope with the "reverse" pulses could be a problem.

In fact the lack of support from NI for using encoders to relate measurements to physical positions is surprising. I have an old entry on the Data Acquisition Idea Exchange. Feel free to add any Kudo and/or comments to get NI to pay some attention. It is here:

Another problem is that if you pause during backward movement and then go forward again, you will not have the real distance from the start position.

As you said it is surprising that this is not a straightforward thing to do. That is why I just spend so much time in looking for a solution, because I never assumed this to be such a big thing.

I didn’t know what kudos are, but as I do now, here you go.
