Hello Everyone,
This is my first experience with the USB 6001 and DAQExpress. After reading some other posts, I realize this device is not well suited for incremental encoder reading. Nonetheless, I believe my application is simple enough that it just might work.
I want to measure wire feed speed using an encoder which is attached to a roller of a known diameter. I don't need direction or position, just speed. I do not have any other inputs/outputs.
Could someone please suggest an approach?
Thanks a lot!

Hi Surfmase,
I suggest you to use the counter input as a frequency counter. Knowing the number of steps of your counter, and the diameter, you can calculate the speed of your roller.
Best regards,
Antoine

Hi caillotantoine,
Thanks for your suggestion. I've tried using the counter input panel to measure frequency, but for some reason I cannot select my device. If I choose "event counter" I can select my device and run the task successfully. But with any other counter type I cannot select the counter on my device. It only offers SimDev1/Ctr0 for example, and the task does not generate any measurements.

sorry for replying to myself, but I haven't made any progress.
Is the USB 6001 not capable of measuring frequency?
Following the guide, I tried to create a new virtual channel in the data neighborhood. In the guide I should choose a physical channel from my hardware. However, only the simulated devices show up as supported physical channels. Sorry for my ignorance, but how can I get around this? Or does my device not support frequency from 1 counter?
Thanks

Hi Surfmase,
Indeed, you cannot make any measurement on SimDev1/Ctr0 since it is a simulated device.

Thanks for confirming that.
But why can't my usb 6001 device measure frequency with its counter?
Thanks

I am currently installing DAQExpress to check that. I come back to you when it finished the install.
