sensors connection

Hi,
I'm a french student, and i'm working at cardiff university on an impact test rig project. The project leader, a teacher, has bought sensors (E3T FT14), a box (SCB 68) and a card to set in the pc. I have installed the NI softwares, but I don't know how to connect the sensors to the SCB 68. Could you please explain me how to do this ? Do I need to find a power source fo the sensors ? I want to use these sensors to get the velocity of the impactor. So I need 2 sensors to get the time between them and with the distance I can get the velocity.
Thanks.

Benjamin Gaszynski.

Hi,

The sensors you have just bought should come with wiring information and documentation.

If you can let me know the NI board that you are using, I will send you the pinout for the SCB-68.

Thanks

Hi,
The NI board we are using is the NI - PCI 6601.
Sensors have been delivered with documentation, but that does not explain how to connect all this together.
Thanks.

Hi,

The pinouts for the PCI-6601 can be found in chapter 4 the user manual.  The user manual can be found at:

http://www.ni.com/pdf/manuals/322137b.pdf

Please let me know if you need any further information

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for the link to the manual.

But even with the manual I realy don't know where to plug the sensors on the SCB 68 box. The receiver gets 3 cables out and the emitter gets 2 cables out. Where should I plugs them ?

Hi there Benjamin,

I would very much like to be able to help further with this, but I am not familiar with the sensors that you have.  Please can I suggest that you have a look at the documentation for the sensors, and, if this does not help out, speak to the teacher who bought them to see if they can offer any more help on this.

So sorry that I am unable to help on the sensor part of this

Thanks

Hello Zaharaoff,

What type of output signal does the sensor output. If this is an accelerometer then this is generally an analog output signal. The board in which you are using is a Counter/Timer board.

If this is what I believe to be the case then with a DAQ board the driver DAQmx will do all all required conversion and it will also generate the code for you in order to plug in the sensor. You also need to find out if the sensor requires any form of excitation.

Hope this helps, Kind Regards
