DIAdem Text Import Wizard

Having just switched to v11 I've now come up against problems with the text file import wizard that weren't present in v10. It seems that, by default, the wizard doesn't recognise numbers as numbers and wants to import all the file values as text. In step 4 of the wizard I get the chance to define the data type for each channel but it seems that I have to define each channel individually!!!

Surely, there is a way of setting the default data type to numerical or defining multiple channels at the same time?

Thanks.

Hi, you can select the columns you want to change by either selecting the first column, press shift and then select the last column or by selecting the first column and then drag it over all columns you want to change. Afterwards you can change the type of all selected columns at once.

Hi, thanks for the response. I had tried your suggestion already and, having just tried it again, the reason I couldn't get it to work was the extremely clunky nature of the dialogue box. You have to avoid doing certain things otherwise the drop-down arrow in the first box you select will disappear. For example, I have more channels than the box can display at one time so if I select the first channel of interest and then use the scroll bar to reveal the last channel of interest and then use the shift key and select that last channel then the drop-drown arrow on the first channel will disappear. The same happens if you try the drag method. A way of recovering the missing arrow is to press a letter on the keyboard or the spacebar.

I also get error messages if I cancel the wizard.

I think it would also be preferrable to set the default from text to numeric since (I believe) it is far more likely that one will be loading numerical data into DIAdem than text.

As per usual, it seems that software developers are desperate to introduce changes that not only don't enhance the features or experience of the application but actually behave less reliably than before. Why fix it if it ain't broke doesn't seem to apply to software....
