OpenStreetmaps 2 Not Available?

I have a .TDV with many sheets and multiple maps in it (synchronized to GPS and time channels).  It is set up to use OpenStreetmaps 2.  This morning, when I started looking at new data, OpenStreetmaps 2 doesn't seem to be available.  It just shows icons with "...more OSM coming soon" text showing (see attachment).  Anyone know what is going on?  If I change it to OpenStreetmaps 1, the maps appear like normal.  I assume there are some changes going on with OpenStreetMaps 2, but I was just curious if anyone knew for sure.

Thanks,

Ed DeWitt

Where did you get the .TDV file?  I am able to open the EXAMPLE.TDV file and display it as either OpenStreetMaps1 or OpenStreetMaps2 with no issues.

Thanks,

Sean

It is my own .TDV file that I developed and have been using daily for two months.  I'll try it again today to see if the issue is "fixed", and report back here.

Try zooming out as you often get the display in your screen grab when you are zoomed in too far - Mike

It was not a zoom issue.  I know what you are referring to, but that wasn't it, as the maps on the various sheets of my View Panel had not been zoomed in any farther than normal.

It seems to be working today, so it must just have been a glitch in the Matrix.  🙂

Ed,

Here is an attempt at an explanation, without having all the details:

DIAdem will access servers on the Internet to download maps for the GPS mapping functionality.

OpenStreetMap is open data not hosted by National Instruments, and we therefore have no control over the availability of servers (and thus have included two servers to pick). You might have experienced an outage or connection issues with one of the OpenStreetMap servers. This is unfortunately not something that we here at NI have control over.

Typically, changing the servers or simply retrying the GPS mapping application at a later time will fix these issues.

I hope that explains your issues a little bit,

I didn't figure it was anything that you had control over.  I thought, though, that maybe they were going through some sort of upgrade and had maybe informed NI ahead of time.  For the past 3-4 months I have been using GPS data and having it mapped in DIAdem.  It has been rock-solid, and I had never had a map not load.  So it was curious to me when it happened.

Any chance of getting the ability to use Google Maps or any other mapping solution that could display satellite images?  I was hoping that this feature was going to come in the 2011 release.  Maybe there are licensing issues, though.  I love the ability of using the GPS data, but at times I would like to see a satellite image of where my test vehicle is at.

Thanks,

Hello Ed,

We ended up using OpenStreetMaps due to the licensing requirements that are put in place by other services that require that we and the end user to pay licensing fees for access to the maps and satellite images. We decided to not use services that would require our users to pay additional licensing fees on top of the DIAdem license you have already paid for.

Based on the licensing situation at the time when we added the map function, it was not feasible to add this functionality at an acceptable cost to the end user of DIAdem. We would certainly like to offer this functionality if we could add it at a reasonable expense to our end users.

I know that's not what you were hoping to hear, but I wanted to provide more detail ...

Not a problem.  As I mentioned, I figured it might be licensing issue.  The ability to sync GPS data with other data is still crazy cool, whether there is a satellite image or not.  Maybe you could make it available in an add-on (i.e. pay-for) toolkit.  I would certainly pay for it, becasue I could justify its use, but people wouldn't have to if they never saw the need for it.  Just a thought.

Thanks for the help,

Ed DeWitt

I am trying to push DIAdem as an analysis tool.  Some of the Engineers use VBOX for DAQ.  I downloaded the plug-in to mess with their data.

I was really looking forward to using the GPS to make a map and plot speed, accell etc...  I could onlyl load street maps.

Satellite maps would be very usefull.  There are no roads where we we are taking GPS data.

Has anyone been able to load custom maps or satellite maps?  DIAdem needs more map options in the drop down.
