PDFEXPORT creates blank page when printing with large datasets

We have a large dataset (> 1 million) and am trying to plot them on mulitple line graphs in report view.  The plots have 105 curves with 10000 points per curve and when we try to perform the pdf export using any method available in DIAdem, the resulting file is a blank page.  Is there any limit to the number of curves or datapoints that can be used to plot to a pdf.

What version of DIAdem are you using, also have you been able to print anything to PDF using the driver, possibly one of the example data sets that is included with the default DIAdem instalation? When you say blank page, are you getting any graphics, text, or anything other than the curves, or is it a 100% blank white page with nothing else on it?

We are able to print to pdf documents but it seems to depend on the amount of data in the portal and the number of curves in the graph.  If both are very large (i.e. 105 curves with 10000 points per curve) then that is when we see the pdf export fail - i.e. completely blank page.  We are currently only trying to write a single page which shows up completely blank.  I also tried generating a dummy report with the last page being a large plot and 2 of the total 10 pages in the pdf document were completely blank.  We have also tried printing to cutepdf and the same thing happens.

Jim,

I just created a REPORT layout with 103 curves in one Axis system, each curve consisting of 1,000,000 points - the output to PDF worked fine.

Could you share your REPORT layout with us here (you may have to ZIP it before the upload) so I can test with your layout?

A screenshot of the REPORT panel with the layout might also help, then I can recreate the layout on my PC if you cannot share the TDR file.

Thanks,

Is it possible to ftp the files to you or email them to you directly so the data/report format are not available to the public?

Jim,

Yes, absolutely.

Please upload the files to ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming - you can put them in a ZIP file with a password or just upload them to that location. The data is only accessible by NI employees after the upload, so it's safe from public view. Please open a Windows Explorer window and navigate to the site, there are complications if FireFox or other browsers are used ...

Once the file is uploaded, please email me: otmar DOT foehner AT ni DOT com and tell me the file name(s).

I can also receive emails with attachments up to 12 MB at my email address, so that might be a simpler solution if the files are small enough. According to our IT, incoming forbidden extensions are .exe, .pif, and .scr attachments. These extensions are also forbidden in archives.

I'll await your files.

Otmar

The files (.tdr and .tdm/.tdx) are being uploaded to the ftp site now.  They are fairly large files so it is going to take about 3hrs to upload them.  It should be done by 1am EST.

The file is called "PDF Export Example.zip".

Is there a solution for this problem? I have the same experience as JimNoel

Hi Diadem2010RMS,

I’m not sure if Otmar and JimNoel found a solution or not.

What version of DIAdem are you using? Are you trying to export and getting a blank page among others or just getting only a blank page?

If you can, would you zip up all your files and upload them to the ftp and I’ll see if I can reproduce the blank page behavior. Also, can you post and let me know when you’ve uploaded.

Regards,
