Saving selected channels as .tdm

Solved!
Go to solution

I have a data set of 1300 channels.  It is saved as a .tdm file.  I am trying to use the "save channels selected in the data portal" feature to save a new data set (as a .tdm) that includes only some of the 1300 channels.  When I try to save, I receive an error message "Error message from DIAdem command kernel:  The channel list can have only a maximum of 255 characters.  Command: DataFileSaveSel(FileDlgFileName, FileDlgFilter, DataCheckChnls)"

Am I exceeding some limit in DIAdem, or do I just need to change some data handling setting?

Hello Crsh Tstr,

What version of DIAdem are you using?

I just ran a test with Version 11. I had about 1,500 channel loaded, selected about 500 of them and used the following steps to save that data:

1. From the "File" menu in theNAVIGATOR, I chose "Save As ..."

2. I checked the "Only elements selected in the Data Portal" box in the dialog

3. I entered a name and stored the file as a TDM file

The file saved fine and loads correctly as well.

I use the default settings of DIAdem 11.

If you use a different version of DIAdem, I'll do some testing with that version to see if I can reproduce your experience.

Hello Crsh Tstr,

It seems that this behavior was fixed in DIAdem 10.1 or DIAdem 10.2 There is no way to fix this in 10.0.

But (there usually is a "but", right?), the following workaround should help you solve this problem in DIAdem 10.0:

1. Copy all the channels you wish to save into one group in the data portal

2. In the NAVIGATOR, click on the "List" tab to change to the list view of channels (rather than the "Structure" based view)

3. Right click on a channel and select the context menu item "New Channel Numbers".

You should now be able to go back to the "Structure" view, select all the channels you want to save, and do that. The "trick" here is that the channels need to have consecutive channel numbers, which we achieve by using the "New Channel Numbers" function.

If you have a chance, take a look at version 11 of DIAdem (http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/5563), it has some really nice new features that might make your life a little easier ...
