TDM Server Offline

Solved!
Go to solution

Hi Brad,

This problem occurred after a weekend of no one being at work.  That said, I can't gaurantee that no power surges, windows updates, etc. occurred.  This version was called "DataFinder Server Base 2018" in the NI License Manager.  I think it may also be called TDM Server 2018, but I'm not 100% sure.  The issue occurred without installing any other software on top of this working version of the TDM Server that had been in place for more than six months.

In an effort to get a working version of the DataFinder back, I uninstalled all NI software on the DataFinder server (by selecting all check boxes through NI Package Manager).  After that, I renamed the C:\Program Files\National Instruments and C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments directories with the suffix "_old".  I also went into Windows and removed both Erlang OTP and RabbitMQ Server.  These were both reinstalled via the "Data Management Software Suite 2018 SP1" installer.  Unforuntately after reinstalling TDM Server 2018 and walking through the configuration steps, the same issue persists and TDM Server Manager won't initialize.

Should add that I just spoke with Michael and I'm now going the route of installing SystemLink, which I understand will install TDM Server 2019.  Hopefully this won't have any compatibility issues with all the DIAdem 2018 and DIAdem 2017 clients.

I should add that the RabbitMQ service showed up as "running" on the DataFinder computer.

After installing SystemLink with the TDM Server 2019 Add-on, I'm still seeing what appears to be some sort of Windows Server 2012 R2 warning about RabbitMQ:

Also seeing errors when configuring TDM 2019:

Wow Chris,

What an ugly odyssey.  Thanks for staying with us and not losing your cool (yet).  Now that you have SystemLink 19.5, would you please launch the "NI SystemLink Server Configuration" dialog?  You can just type that into the Windows Start menu to find it.  This will display troubleshooting issue found and also give you the option create a diagnostic report you can send us.

Does that machine have TLS 1.0 installed and active?

Hi Brad, will give this a try as soon as IT tells me they've finished the vitrual machine update to Windows Server 2016.

So the Windows Server 2016 machine is ready.  I tried using NI Package Manager to install System Link, but it gave the following error:

I can always install another way, but wanted to follow best practice given the issues we've had.

Hi Chris,

I have to admit I've never personally tried to install SystemLink on Windows Server 2016, but I doubt that's the problem.  I certainly used the NI Package Manager to upgrade my TDM Server 2018 SP1 (18.5) to SystemLink TDM 19.5, but that was on Windows 10, and it wasn't a clean machine.  Was there a previous version of SystemLink or TDM Server on that Windows Server 2016 computer?  I'm guessing it's been freshly imaged, but I'm fishing for clues at this point.  I don't have much experience with the NI Package Manager process yet myself.

Nope, this was a freshly built Windows 2016 Server VM with no previous NI software.

Just a quick update - I never did succeed in getting NI Package Manager to install SystemLink 19.5 on the Windows Server 2016 VM, but I did go ahead and install the DataFinder Server 18.5 via the "Data Management Software Suite 2018 SP1.exe" installer file.  This is currently working as our active DataFinder server.  If anyone has more information on using NI Package Manager 19.6 to install SystemLink 19.5 on Windows Server 2016, please share.

We discovered an issue with how a SystemLink patch was published to NIPM. The issue should be resolved now, so please try installing SystemLink 19.5 again. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Ok just confirmed that the NIPM installation of SystemLink 19.5.1 worked on a Windows 7 machine.  Will try again on the Windows Server 2016 machine after hours.
