Hi.
I have a laptop running Windows XP with DIAdem 10.2 installed.
Main problem: DIAdem won't start. A few seconds after trying to run it i get an "ERROR" message box saying
"The internal DIAdem data organization returned an initialization error."
Issue that could be related: When I log on to the laptop there is an error message saying
"The DataFinder cannot start du to an internal error. (122): Unable to open configuration file! C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\.......\my.datafinder< runmode: DataFinder Desktop Edition".
The directory C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings does not exist on the laptop.
My first thought was to just reinstall DIAdem. However, when i open Add/Remove programs DIAdem is not in the list, so I cant uninstall it. When I just try to run the installer it says I have to unistall the existing version first.
Any idea how I could get DIAdem working again?
(btw this laptop is used for courses etc. in our company, so I have no idea how this problem occured. Just that they haven't been able to run DIAdem on it for more than a year)

Hi salte,
As a standard practice, it is recommended to run only one version of the software and hence when you try installing once again, there is a possibility of such a message appearing.
Most dependencies of NI software can be removed by using MSI Blast utility which can be downloaded here
Hope this helps.
Cheers!

Thanks for you reply Jayantbm.
I've now worked my way through the entire procedure in the "MSI Blast.pdf" file, but I still have the same problem when starting DIAdem.
At the end of the procedure it said that if NI software was still running incorrectly then the log file and the output file from MsiSpy could be used to locate the problem. I've attached these files to this post (Edit: I was not allowed to attach the files because they were too big)
Basically was happend was:
* Used MSIBlast to remove all NI software (Got an error message when uninstalling NI LabVIEW Run-Time Engine 8.2.1, but it still disappeared from the list)
* Reboot
* Removed all registry keys and values as described in procedure
* Removed all files/folders as described in procedure
* Installed "Windows Installer Clean Up Utility" (don't know why this was included in the procedure as it was never used, just installed)
* Installed DIAdem 10.2 as described in procedure. After the installer had finished i got a warning messagebox saying "The DIAdem installation is completing, please wait...". The a short while later i got the same error message that i get when trying to start DIAdem (The internal DIAdem data organiztion returned an initialization error).
* Reboot
* Got the same error message as before after reboot ("The DataFinder cannot start du to an internal error. (122): Unable to open configuration file! C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\.......\my.datafinder< runmode: DataFinder Desktop Edition".)
* Got the same error message as before when attempting to start DIAdem (The internal DIAdem data organiztion returned an initialization error).
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Salte,
in your 1st message you told us that you couldn't find DIAdem in the Add/Remove Programms list.
=> Please look in this list for <National Instruments Software> or <Software of National Instruments>. This is because NI has its own Add/Remove Programs list entry. Here you should find DIAdem to uninstall.
You should use MSIBlast only if the "normal" uninstallation has failed for some reasons. If you use MSIBlast it could not guaranteed that everything is uninstalled in the correct order. MSIBlast is not aware upon the dependencies between the MSIs.
You told us that the directory C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings does not exist on your laptop. If you have a correct XP installation, it must be there. Sometimes it's invisible because of your windows settings. If this is the case please change your windows settings so that you can view to system folders as well.
If you has found this folder, please delete the following folder: "c:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\National Instruments\Shared\DataFinder" . After that please start DIAdem - a new folder with the sub folders "config" and "data" are created.
If the error stays - then I have only one idea: If your laptop hasn't enough harddisc free space to manage all the temporary files which occurs during an installation - then it might be that such a message occurs if you start the installed application. The installer itself doesn't warn about this in every case, e. g. fragmented harddisc, overloaded virtual machine, etc).
Hope some of my points could help you,
Regards,

Thanks dietfons.
You were right about the hidden folder, can't believe I hadn't thought of that.
Anyway, the file in question was not there. I tried to delete the folder and then start DIAdem, but still got the same error message. (NOTE: the message regarding this file only occured after rebooting and was related to the DataFinder, not DIAdem, allthough the two problems were probably related).
So i tried to uninstall DIAdem again (this time using Add/Remove programs as suggested). Then I deleted all folders related to National Instruments. Then reinstalled DIAdem. And this time it worked. So thanks again.

Hello all,
Have exactly the same problem. Had DIADEM 11.1 and uninstalled it to install DIAdem 2010 and had this error. Did everything that is recommended in the forum ( uninstall and install again via Control Panel, erased USI configuration files, cleaned registry, used MSIBlast etc) but nothing works! I get the same error even if I try to install the older version ( 11.1).
Please, could you help me out with this???!

Do you see an error after rebooting the computer (DataFinder cannot start) only or do you see also an error when starting DIAdem? Which error?

Hello,
what text shows the status bar in the left edge of the starting dialog. Is it "Initialization the data kernel..."?
Please check if the following folder with the following file is available:
"C:\Program Files\National Instruments\Shared\USI\DataModels\DIAdem\Data\3_0\DIAdem_Data_3_0.xml".
("C:\Program Files\..." only if installed with default installation settings)
What operating system are you using? WinXP?

Hello ThomasWH,
Yes, it is " Initialization the data kernel...".
My OS is Windows Vista. I am going to check for that file and get back to you asap
