Include HSE GenNet functionality into DQMH out of the box

Status: Declined

While we’ve decided not to integrate it into the core framework for now, we fully recognize the valid need it addresses — namely, easier communication between multiple DQMH Modules over the network.

We invite the community to help us explore this further:

  • What problems are you trying to solve?

  • What would a clean, DQMH-compatible solution look like?

  • Have you already implemented something similar?

We’re not closing the door — just keeping it open for a broader discussion and better-defined requirements. Share your thoughts, ideas, or examples.

Any reason not to?

Well, first of all, this feature request surely gets my kudo.

If you watch this presentation, you'll see that there are a number of challenges to overcome in order to make GenNet easy and simple to use and to extend. I imagine the Consortium has other features higher up on the priority list.

HSE is constantly evaluating how much investment can be justified from a business perspective. If we can find the budget, we can surely make GenNet integrate much tighter with DQMH...

The motivation for my suggestion is driven by the quite obvious fact that as awesome as DQMH is for an application development, I always seem to have to come up with something of my own creation every time I need to make a distributed application - one that runs on multiple machines, targets, etc. across ethernet. HSE GenNet seems like the closest thing to a standard way of accomplishing this.
