10V pulse into a 9401?

Solved!
Go to solution

I'm using sensors that output a 10V pulse.  Can I use the 9401 module to read the pulse? The NI 9401 has a 5.25V max input, but the spec sheet mentions something about +/- 30V max overvoltage protection on one channel at a time.  I'd have 7 sensors on the module simultaneously. Any idea if this would work.

Thanks in advance.

Hi gintree,

If you read the 'Safety' section of this data sheet it states that you can only have a maximum voltage +-30V on one channel at a time.

I would conclude that this wouldn't work.

Maybe the NI9478 would be more suitable, as each channel is compatible with 5 to 50 V signals.

Hope this helps!

I may be mistaken, but isn't the NI9478 an output module?  My appliation is reading in 10V pulses, so I need an input module.

Sorry about that, read it wrong! Try the Ni 9422, should be more suitable!

The spec sheet for the 9422 states the input voltage range as 11 to 60V for the ON state.  My signal is 10V.  Will the module pick up a signal that is lower than the rated minimum?

The NI 9425 should be better suited then, however the ON state is at >=10V.

Ok great.  That sounds like it should work.  I appreciate the help.
