DAQmx for Linux Labview 2009?

I have Labview 2009 installed on OpenSuse 11.2. I need to install the DAQmx driver in order to be able to utilize my Analog Out and Digital I/O modules, NI6704 and PXI 6509, respectively. However, apparently the latest DAQmx driver (8.0.1) only supports up to Labview 8.6. Does this mean that I have no other available drivers around?

My last resort right now would be to call NI and request an older version of Labview 8.6 for Linux, but I would like to see if there are any other options before I do that.

Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

ktbt,

I ran into this the other day as well. The DAQmx 8.0.1 driver for Suse  does not support LV 2009. The best option is to use LabVIEW 8.6 with the DAQmx driver in Linux. Further more, you will probably encounter problems with OpenSuse 11.2 and the DAQmx driver as it is not officially supported. I would recommend using OpenSuse 11.1 if you can, because the NI-KAL driver has Beta support for 11.1 and you could probably get that combination working.

Here are a couple of links to help you out as well:

1) NI-KAL 1.10 driver, look through the readme and it will mention common installation problems and how to get around them.

https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-kal.html

2) National Instruments has a Linux Users group which provides pretty decent Linux support on the NI products. There are a couple of developers that monitor the discussions on there. If you run into problems they normally have discusses similar issues there, and if not, feel free to post there.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply awiseman.

Have you also talked to an NI rep about this issue? If so, was their recommendation solution also to install the older version of Labview? I've sent them an e-mail, but I haven't heard back from them yet. (I probably need to call them)

P.S. I just joined the Linux User's group and it looks very resourceful. Thanks again!

ktbt,

I have been caught up on getting other items working first and the Linux with DAQmx has been more of a hobby than actual need. If you do call into support they might be able to help you get a copy of LabVIEW 8.6, especially if you bought 2009 specifically for this task. They are normally pretty good about things like that.

Overall, the Linux User's group is a good resource to keep around. Happy developing!
