Digital Waveform Editor will not save this waveform

I am using Digital Waveform Editor 3.0 in a Vista Business computer and have a problem with the attached waveform. I can open it and edit it but if I select save or save as nothing happens. No windows pop up with save options, nothing. If I exit the program I get prompted if I want to save my changes but if I select save the program will hang and not make the changes. I created several new waveforms the same size and the same number of channels and it will save and reopen them without any problem. I will recreate my work from scratch and see if it will work but it would be nice to know what I did to this waveform that caused it to act up.

Have you already tried saving the waveform in a different format? Maybe your existing HWS is kind of corrupt...

Here's what I would try:

- open the waveform, save to a different format. Close the editor, reopen it, reopen the (whatever) format file and try to save it back as HWS; hopefully it works Smiley Happy

- if this does not work (and if you're adventurous) create a new hws file from scratch and try to save it.

- if this does not work: reinstall (or repair) the editor and hws driver

Hope that helps

Oli

Hi Tom from the Lab,

I believe the source of the issue you are experiencing is a bug in the software that has already been reported to R&D. It has to do with the length of the file names for .hws files opened in the Digital Waveform Editor. It appears that if the length of the file name is greater than or equal to 45 characters, then some unexpected behavior will occur in the software (such as not being able to save and crashing upon exit/saving).

I was able to replicate the issue you described with the file you posted and I fixed it by shortening the file name. I changed it to a name that was 5 characters long, but you should be okay as long as you stay under 45 characters.
