I plan to use an NI6587 Flexrio Digital IO adapter module to generate and acquire LVDS signals at high rates. I also have a couple of single ended signals that I need to connect to NI 6587 module. NI 6587 has a few single-ended PFI lines. What is the purpose of these PFI lines in this module? I understand PFI lines in analog modules are routed to triggering circuits for custom triggers and multi-channels synchronization. But what are these PFI lines doing in digital I/O modules. Can I use them as general purpose I/O? I basically need to read these S/E signals in my FPGA (in an SCTL running at 400MHz clock) and monitor signal edges and generate LVDS signals based on the edges.
I appreciate any and all help I can get.
