How to control more than 200 separate solenoid valves ?

Hi,

Sorry, there are a lot of posts about solenoid valves controlling

But , I have  more than 200 solenoid valve , may be my requirements are different from the other posts.

I am looking for an "interface card" between the computer and the solenoid valves.

Whic hardware anad software requirements for this communication.

Timing is important for solenoid valves, at the same time they should be able to turn on and off.

Any hints will be highly appreciated.

What rates would you be switching the solenoid states?  Will some always be turned on and off together (ie controlled with the same digital line)?  What voltage do you need to control the solenoids?  How much current?

I would highly recommend you give a call to your local NI representative so they can sit down with you and go over your requirements.  They are usually more than happy to help out.

Thanks. Our project is Water Curtain Project . We havent decided solenoid valve model but probably we will select "independently controlled one way direct acting, normally closed, 24v .25 amp with a 15ms delay. 1/8" ID outlet. They are Spartan Scientific model 3825-07-A203" Thanks.

A water curtain was shown at NI Week a few years ago.  I do not recall which year it was. If you can find who put together that demo, you may be able to get some ideas.

Hi,

should be more different solutions, brainstorming please!

Hi,

There are other things to consider. The distance between the solenoids and the computer ? Do you want to control each solenoid individual or in groups ?

Do you want to build some parts yourself ?

If the solenoid takes 0.25A and if you switch all solenoids at once you need a 50A power supply.

Hi,

Distance is 10m or 20m from between computer and solenoid valves.

You are right,  current is a problem. I have to design graphics as  min. solenoid valves open/close.

Selonoid valves are individual , but may be water source in groups

But nobody advice me  DIO device !

thanks

The DIO device also depends on the current and distance.

If you have a 32ch DIO this device must handle 8A. If you have a 4ch DIO you will end with 50 DIO devices.

I will look for a suitable device and get back to you.

Back actually you should ask your NI office for a solution.

Sorry,

PC->DIO-> SSR-> Soleonoid Valve (external power supply)

Is it possible ?

Yes, a DIO board with external SSR's could be a good solution. You can use a 96ch PCI DIO, use a low current cable to the SSR placed near the solenoids.

Another possibility I found is the USB-6525. A 8 ch. Solid state output. You need to extend the USB from the PC to the 6525 at the solenoids. The 6525 can drive the solenoids directly. But you need 25 devices !!

and I am sure that there are more solutions possible.
