Is NI-9381 compatible with cDAQ-9188?

When I connect the NI 9381 module to cDAQ-9188. NI MAX reports unsupported module. Does that mean NI 9381 and cDAQ-9188 are uncompatible?

I looked at this but it's not clear if this is specific to LabView.

NI 9381 is not compatible with any cDAQ. It is only compatible with cRIO, which requires a different hardware and driver. The web page you referenced applies to all compatible programming language supported by these devices.
