NI-DAQ with ni6071e hangs Init_DA_brd

Hi,

This is an odd problem. I have a PCI-DIO-32 and a n6071e. I installed them and I know they work. However when I installed NI-VXI they stopped working. The system that they are on is an industrial computer with about 12 PCI slots which means lots of bridges. When I touch the hardware (ie.. Init_DA_brd) the application hangs. I don't get any errors or return codes. Since I cannot step into this code I have no clue what is going on.

I took the hardware to my desktop PCI, installed it and it ran fine. Then I installed NI-VXI and it stopped working. I was able to reinstall NIDAQ and get it to work again. However this procedure did not work for the industrial PC. I have tried every combination of installation sequences and senarios over the last two weeks and cannot get this thing to work at any time when NI-VXI is installed.

It is worth noting that in all the above senarios, MAX can talk to the hardware just fine. I'm in need of some fresh ideas.

Thanks,
Bill Peters

Hi Bill,

I understand that your PCI-DIO-32 and PCI 6071E are in one of the 12 slots on your industrial computer and working correctly except when you install the NI-VXI driver.  This driver should not have any conflict with the NI-DAQ driver.  NI-VXI driver calls are used for initializing and configuring your VXI system and should not affect the driver calls for data acquisition.  What versions of NI-DAQ  and NI-VXI did you install?

You mentioned that the Init_DA_brd function causes the application to hang.  Are you using this function in a text based environment like CVI or a version of LabVIEW? Knowing more about your setup might make it easier to troubleshoot this issue.  It might help to know why you need to use NI-VXI and how your system is configured.  Do you have a VXI system connected to the industrial PC that needs this driver to run?

According to this knowledgebase, Order of Installation for Multiple National Instruments Hardware and Software Products , Traditional NI-DAQ should be installed before NI-VXI.  You might then consider uninstalling everything again and starting the installation procedure over just to make sure that the driver software was not corrupted during installation.  Please let me know if any of this was helpful or if you could provide me with some more information!
