Solenoid valve control

Can I control solenoid valves using 9401 module?

Are there any actuators compatible with 9401 module? Looking for a two port valve.

No, 9401 is a digital signalling module and cannot directly drive high loads such as an actuator like solenoid or relay.

You need a relay module such as 9485 or 9482 to control solenoids.

If you cannot purchase a new c-series module and must use the 9401, you've to purchase solenoid driver modules to interface between the 9401 and the solenoid.

Thanks Santhosh for the reply.

I have a relay module with me which i am attaching below.

will I be able to use this relay module?

if 9401 is not fine. I have a ni 6036e card attached to the pcle lane in my computer. Can I use this card ?

Yes, that relay module can interface between 9401 or 6036E and your solenoid.

Ok awesome. Thank you so much for the help.

My next question is which actuator and valve assembly is compatible with either 9401 or 6306e.

I have checked a few valves from VICI and SMC but I am unsure which actuator and cables I should be using.

Unfortunately, the devices you mention of has only electrical specifications, it would be your responsibility to check the electrical requirements of any actuator or valve assembly.

Yes I get it. Will I be able to use an adapter to convert 64 pin connector to rs232 connector or DB9 connector.

These 2 connectors are common in actuators.

Regarding valves I get it. It’s something I have to figure out.

If you have got a valve or actuator selected, we could help evaluate the feasibility and suggest an electrical connection with your NI hardware.

I am planing on vici valves 2 position control actuator with high speed. which has an rs232 or rs485 connection.

I have attached the link below for the actuator.

https://www.vici.com/act/mic.php

I am choosing a low pressure valve  which has 1/8th inch tubing. am attaching there link below for reference.

please let me know how to do the electrical connection?

Since the Vici valve uses RS232, you no longer need the 9401, you can directly connect the RS232 cable to your PC instead of the cDAQ/cRIO. If your PC does not have an RS232 port, you can get a USB-RS232 convertor.
