Upgrade from NI-DAQ legacy to NI-DAQmx

Hi,

We have a large system that is developed in VB and uses the traditional NI-DAQ legacy system. The system uses VB6 and windows XP.

We would like to upgrade to Windows 7 with the least amount of changes.

1) Do I need to download the latest driver? And what is the version number?

2) Would the latest driver be compatible with VB6?

3) Are there any major hardware changes that will be required?

Thanks, Magued

Hi Magued,

Our latest driver is DAQmx 9.7. Whether you need the latest driver will depend on what you're working with. It's always a good idea to have the latest driver, but depending on your hardware moving to the latest driver may require more changes.

The latest driver, DAQmx 9.7, does support VB6.

What is the hardware you are currently using? This will affect what drivers your current hardware is supported by, and the driver and hardware option that will require the least amount of changes. Please give me more information on your setup and application, and I can help you determine the best setup for your application.

Thanks!

Hi Emily,

Thanks a lot for your reply.

Our issue is the similar to:

http://forums.ni.com/t5/Real-Time-Measurement-and/traditional-ni-daq-device-drivers-in-windows-7/m-p...

We have a legacy system that uses the nidaq32.dll. All the hardware reading and writing uses the dll. We are using the PCI-DIO-961 controller to control a large Kern application.

We would like for now to keep using the traditional NI-DAQ, I have dowloaded the NI DAQ 7.5 (Beta) vesion and tried to run on Windows 7 and it failed.  The error message is that it only works for Windows XP or Vista.

Is there a way around that? Any suggestions how we can proceed for now using the traditional NI-DAQ with Windows 7?

Thanks and we will definetly upgrade to DAQmx 9.7 in the future.

Thanks, Magued

Hi Magued,

Do you have Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit? Do you also have DAQmx installed on this computer?

Could you please post a screenshot of the exact error you're seeing during installation?

The NI DAQ 7.5 (Beta) has not undergone extensive testing, and is only recommended as a temporary solution.
