measure supply current while running the digital pattern to toggle the outputs

Monitor the Vdd current while running the digital test pattern to toggle all outputs. Using PXI-6551 board program inputs, clock and start singals to get the outputs.

Hello William,

You should be able to monitor a part of your application while running a digital test pattern to toggle outputs. If you have a specific question about this, please let me know. The more information you can give me about your application and what you are trying to do, the better I would be able to help you out.

Thanks for the information.
I am using the PXI-6551 HSDIO board for the input pins (9 inputs) assignment. Run with digital patterns at 100KHz. These patterns will program inputs (including clock pluse)and drive the outputs to trun on one at time. Connect the MIO on the power supply and measure the supply current one at time. Do you have any idea to do this? Thanks again.

Hi William,

Please help me further understand what you are trying to do. If I'm correct, it sounds like you have set up 9 of the DIO lines on the PXI-6551 to be inputs, but what do you mean by running with digital patterns at 100kHz? Are you generating patterns with LabVIEW? Are you using external equipment to generate patterns at 100kHz, and connecting your external equipment to the 9 digital input lines on the PXI-6551? Does your acquisition on the PXI-6551 trigger off the 100kHz pattern? What do you mean by connecting the MIO? Are you using another DAQ card? Please clarify your setup.

Also, I don't quite understand what you are looking for ideas on. Perhaps this will become more evident upon clarification of you set up, but I can't
quite tell if you are having trouble programming, setting up the hardware, understanding specs of the board(s), etc. Please let me know as best as you can how I can help you out. Have a great day!

I am inputting the digital pattern to the PXI-6551 board. The patterns are generated from the digital waveform editor. One of my inputs is the trigger signal. The MIO is connected to the Vdd power supply to measure the current whenever the trigger signal is generated. I hope there is a way to measure this current. Thanks.

Hi William,

Thanks for the additional information, however, we're still looking for a few key pieces of information.
1. Please confirm you are trying to measure current using your MIO device.
2. Please let us know what your MIO device is. Is it an M-Series, E-series, 67xx series, etc?
3. Just to make sure, are you trying to measure the current in a trigger signal that is generated by the 6551?

Please let us know, an hopefully we'll be able to resolve this issue quickly. Have a great day!

Hi Logan,

Thanks for your time. I am using the MIO 6031 E-series to measure the voltage drop across a resistor (in differential mode) then converts to current. That is what I try to do, sorry for the confusion of "measuring current using MIO device." In regard to third question, the answer is "yes". I am trying to use one of my digital input pin from the 6551 as the trigger signal. Perhap there is a "syn" between the 6551 and 6031 that needs to resolve, do you have any kind of example VI to do this? Thanks again.

Hi William,

Are you doing input or output wtih the 6551? It looks like you are doing output but some of the above posts say input.

I think the easiest way to trigger the E-series acquisition would be to wire the trigger line from the 6551 to one of the digital inputs on the E-series card. Use one of the analog input with digital trigger examples. In LabVIEW go to Help >> Find Examples >> Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Analog Measurements >> Voltage >> Acq&Graph Voltage-Int Clk-Dig Start.VI. There are also several other examples in that directory that use digital start and stop triggers.

I use 9 channels of the PXI-6551 HSDIO to be my inputs and one of these inputs is my "syn" channel. Measure the voltage drop across a resistor on the VDD power supply by using the E-series MIO 6031. Thanks for the information. I would like to know any example used the PXI-6551 HSDIO board as the digital inputs.

Hi William,

Here is a good example:
