output signal wattage

Hi there..

I have read the manual and help links and made what sense i can of them.. but i am still stumped by this.

Basically we are using an output signal to tell an electrically controlled valved to open or close. The valve is usually closed and requires a 12V signal to open it. I was wondering if you can change the strength of the output signal or what the set wattage for the output signal is?

Sorry if this is a silly question.. but it has got me stumped good and proper. We are using Labview 7 if this helps at all.

Thanks for any help you can give

Hi Andrew,

Depending on which digital board you're using, you may have the option to adjust the voltage level of the output. For an industrial DIO board (such as 6514/6515), the output will switch between 0V and the supplied voltage (max. 30VDC). Depending on the board, the output current level will also differ (e.g. 6514: max 350mA, 6515: max 500mA).

If you can find out what the current requirement of the valve is, and indicate which board you're considering (or currently have), we can better determine if the valve can be controlled by the board.

Thanks,
Lesley Y.
