NI-4060 DMM Offset Error

Hello,

I had a problem with NI-4060 DMM. When nothing is connected, its showing 1V reading in the front panel. So I wasn't able to measure anything less than 1V, unless I short both the leads. Also this problem started all of sudden. DMM measures all the voltages above 1V without any problem. The 2-wire resistance measurement is also working fine.
Can anyone help me with this

Thanks

Hello Sarath,

What does the DMM measure when you short its inputs? Is it still 1 V, or something else?
Also, when you say that "[the] DMM measures all the voltages above 1V without any problem", does this mean that there is no offset when you measure signals above 1 V, i.e. the DMM correclty measures what's at the input?

Answers to these questions could help me get a better understanding of what is going on.

Could you please include the information about the NI-DMM version, and the application environment that you use (LabVIEW, CVI, Visual C, and etc)

Hello Sead,

Thanks for your reply.
DMM front panel displays 0V when two leads were shorted. Also there was no offset introduced for all the voltages greater than 1V. Today we had another problem with resistance measurement. When I connect 10K to it it doesn't show correct value, instead it shoes some garbage like -4825.85ohms. When nothing is connected its always showing -ve values like -20k.

One interesting thing is I switched from resistance mode to voltage measurement mode and switched back to resistance mode casually. DMM started measuring correct value expect the fact that the value is decreasing constantly. If I want to measure another resistance, I have to change the mode and revert back and can see the correct resistance value for a while.
All I can say at the end is DMM is not consistent with this error/fault. Its behaving something strangely.
The Serial no of DMM that currently had this problem is BD52BE (PXI-4060). Also I just listed the software versions as well. We basically use Teststand1.0 with LabWindows/CVI 5.10.

Software Version
Measurement & Automation V 1.1, Build 51
NI-DMM V 1.1
NI-Switch V 1.1
NI Spy V 1.2
CVI/Lab Windows V 5.10.4.0
CVI Run-Time V 7.0.0.393
Test Stand V 1.0.2.100
NI-DAQ for Win32 V 6.6.0f4
NI-PAL Software V 1.3.1f1
Microsoft Windows 98 V 4.10.1998
