Trouble recognizing the NI 4065 with Labview 8.0 and NIDAQ 8.6.1

HI,

I am new to this community and have never interfaced Labview with a DAQ before.  I am trying to use a NI PCI 4065 to measure resistance and spit out values to the excel file.  The only problem right now is that I cant seem to get Labview to recognize the DMM.  I am trying to use the DAQ Assist Express VI to accomplish the first part of the task, however the Express VI does not detect the DMM.  In addition to this, SIgnal Express does detect it.  Automation Explorer and the included DMM Soft Front Panel seem to both be happy with it.

Any help would be appreciated

You are not interfacing to a DAQ board. You are interfacing to a DMM. They use different drivers. The DAQ Assistant is only for NI's DAQ boards. You have to use NI-DMM to control the 4065.

Hello Crashtian,

Dennis is correct; the NI 4065 uses the NI-DMM driver.  Since you are able to use the DMM Soft Front Panel, Measurement and Automation Explorer and Signal Express with the DMM it sounds like you already have the driver installed.  If this is the case you can access some example programs in LabVIEW by opening LabVIEW and going to Help» Find Examples...  Then navigate to Hardware Input and Output» Modular Instruments» NI-DMM.  Also, you can access the NI-DMM VIs on the functions pallet under Functions» Measurement I/O» NI-DMM.

Hi Crashtian,

I just wanted to add that there is also an express VI for the DMM called NI-DMM/Switch Express VI.  You can find this VI on the Measurement I/O» NI-DMM pallet or by searching for "NI-DMM/Switch Express" on the functions pallet.  It should operate very similarly to the DAQ Assistant you're familiar with.

I neglected to install the labview components of NI-DMM.  I did that this morning and found and used the NI-DMM express VI.
