Trouble using ni 4050

Hello, everyone

Just bought NI 4050 PCMCIA DMM.  The installation was fine, and MAX reported as a Traditional NI-DAQ (Legacy) device with the device number.  Tried to run the DC voltage single measurement VI in the Example folder, but every time I got an error message as bellow:

"Error -1074118656 occurred at niDMM Initialize.vi
Device was not recognized. The device is not supported with this driver or version".

I am using LabView PDS 8.5 and FDS 7.1

Anybody knows how to solve this problem?  Thanks.

What version of Windows are you using?
Try launching the DMM Soft Front Panel and verify the board works there. If it works, then it's possible that you are typing the device name incorrectly in the example VI, double check that and let us know.

Good luck!

Thanks for quick response.  4050 worked fine in MAX's test panel and DMM soft front panel, but I did not know why I could not change the device number in the example VIs.  I tried to change the device number in MAX, then restarted LabView 8.5.  This time, I was able to change the device number, and the example VI started working.  But I still could not change the device number in LabView 7.1 (I am using XP/Pro + SP2).  Any way, I might spend some time to figure out the problem in LabView 7.1, but it is not very important.  Thanks again, Marcos.  You have a good weekend.

Hello Leibo

I'm not sure what you mean by "I still could not change the device number in LabView 7.1".

If you mean that the Instrument Descriptor control/constant wired into the niDMM Init.vi was not pre-populated with the names of the DMMs installed in your system, then this is normal. That functionality wasn't added until LabVIEW 8.0. Just type it in yourself and all should work normally.

If you meant something else, please clarify and we can help you with it.

Good luck

You are right, Marcos.  In LabView 7.1, I need to manually type in the device name in the instrument descriptor, then it works.  It is not like LabView 8.5, I can select the device name from a drop-down manu in the instrument descriptor.  Right now, they all work fine.  Thanks a lot.
