CRio does not communicate

We're thinking we have a defective CRio. We have done the following to check the problem:

  1. Reinstalled all updates
  2. Checked power connections to the CRio
  3. Connected the Pink Crossover cable from the laptop TO the CRio
  4. Changed CRio dip switches to IP Reset on
  5. Ran the CRio utility to find CRio-error message" CRio not located".  The CRio utility shows the default as a .zip file but will not allow us to search for the device.
  6. checked network connections and re-checked TCP/IP connections
  7. Renamed the CRio to our team number
  8. Turned off local firewall on machine
  9. Getting Green Power light and Blinking Amber Status light
  10. Verified connnectivity To the CRio via networkconnections-Windows
  11. Disabled-re-enabled lap top Nic adapter

What else do we need to do to get communication?  I think we've exhausted the list from my limited networking experience.

Were you able to successfully image the cRIO?  You said you were able to rename the cRIO but also said that the imaging tool could not find your device.

What is the IP address of the laptop?  Is it set statically?  If you're going to use a crossover cable, you MUST assign a static address to the laptop, and it should be on the same subnet as your cRIO.

Try opening Measurement and Automation Explorer (MAX), under National Instruments in your Programs menu.  Open the remote devices tab.  Can it find your cRIO?  If not, try setting the Reset IP switch and try again.  You can use that tool to reformat the cRIO if necessary (you will need to set the Safe Mode DIP switch in order for that to work).

Yes, I finally got it re-done. You wouldn't believe it...I am a Dumkopf (this is a family forum). I went back to the documentation and the only thing I didn't do was disable the wireless card. Bingo...we flew through the process. The robot moves, and nearly spits nickles!

Thanks for putting up with newbies/rookie teams.  Next time I'll RTM and "don't panic".

Hello Steve,

I am glad that you got everything up and running.  Do not worry at all about the questions.  It helps everyone here with all the questions.  Of course reading the manual is good but with everything that is in there we are all bound to miss a few things.

If you run into anything in the future please feel free to let us know!  Have a great day!

Thanks!
